Jama Connect has been invaluable to our organization as a common place to host our product's specifications (user needs, system and module requirements, system interface), testing (test cases and traceability), as well as risk management documentation. All of our recent projects make use of Jama Connect and is used by the majority of our engineers.
  • Traceability from user needs to system requirements, system requirements to system tests and module requirements, module requirements to module tests
  • Ability to create and define items and relationships to enable custom workflows
  • Versioning, keeping track of changes, and locking items
  • Easy way to add comments for each change in the items
  • Cross-project linkage and ability to share items between projects
  • Easy way to create custom templates
Jama Connect has been a great choice for us. After getting setup with the platform, it has been relatively easy and straight-forward to use, from creating new items, sending out items for review, exporting and printing items, seeing traceability, baselining projects, and much more. Having one central location to do work on requirements and testing has been key to keeping organized during development of our products. In fact, we have been recommending Jama Connect to others!

We use Jama for all related activities regarding requirements and Functional Safety activities.

The tool is used by all development teams with great acceptance level.
  • high level of customization
  • ease of use
  • organization of requirements
  • reviews both internal or with external participants
  • some views can be more "user friendly" (ex. trace view does not scale the fields)
  • automation using "advanced" scripts especially for creating documentation.
  • read access to users with floating licence when the license is not avaiable (same as stakeholder license)
Jama Connect works very well for organizations where the culture of using requirements and documentation in a systematic manner is already established and accepted. The tool is very easy to use and requires no specific knowledge for doing 90% of the tasks. On the other hand, the tool can be used in many ways, since there is very little automation and it is very customizable. This gives a lot of freedom on one side but also introduces a risk of being "misused" if the right discipline and approach is not applied.

We use Jama Connect as a requrements tool. Before we had not a well working requirements tool. With Jama Connect we had the chance to build it up propper and clean. Also the support was really helpful. The scope is to have a tool to show up requirements and all the related usecases like tests, etc.
  • Requirements
  • Test Cases
  • development support
  • buyable Database of main requirements like legal ones
  • Downgrade from float creator to Stakeholder
  • less coomplexity with creating requirements (if possible)
in our usecase as an automotiv startup this was very helpful to have the main requirements from absolut high level down to soft- and hardware requirements easily sorted and with a good overview

We use Jama Connect to manage our IEC 61508 functional safety requirements that are used to certify our products. Jama Connect had an out of the box solution which allowed us to have tools to support all our artifacts and were able to further exploit its customization to support our companies unique processes. All safety and non safety requirements across every engineering function uses the tool in this use case.
  • Intuitive Design
  • Excellent Configuration Managment
  • Robust and controlled Peer Review tool
  • Single page traceability matrix
The biggest scenario where Jama Connect is well suited, was use of the review center. We saved money and time since by utilizing key functions of this tool. For our processes, its important to have a controlled and historic context for our peer reviews to ensure the highest quality requirements. A scenario less suited, is trying to use Jama Connect as a task management solution like Jira or other similar project management tools.

We are using JAMA Connect to track our requirements coming from Customer Requirements to our System Requirements and gather all Problems and Changes in development of Car Displays with it. We use it to get proof to our customers of following up on our tests and problem reports. This in conjunction with automated testing and integration of these tests with JAMA.
  • Tracking of issues related to requirements is easy.
  • Storing test results through the API into defined tests
  • Ease of use and understanding for end-users
  • Moving from Projects to Programs, were a program contains several projects. In the car industry you have a program which contains several projects (left/right side driving, with or without touch etc.) Still the same program.
  • Login to simple no 2-factor authentication possible
  • Login has no end-date so no warning of expiration-date on password.
Within the automotive scene there are several areas were JAMA would neatly fit, also with OEM's. Specially to track the requirements with the review central which let's you quickly see what is done and what needs to be done to fulfill the requirements.

We use Jama Connect for model based system engineering to track our design inputs and outputs. It allows us to trace and manage requirements, risk analysis/DFMEAs, and ultimately test cases and V&V.
  • Straightforward for standard use
  • Romer has been great at helping us when we have questions
  • Tracing is super easy
  • Management tree keeps things very organized
  • Customization of item types is not nearly as robust as other systems like Polarion.
  • Polarion also seems to be better at showing upstream and downstream info directly on the item you have selected. Not just what the trace is, but actual content from that trace.
  • There could be better information on how to create custom exports for those that don't know how to use mail merge.
It's very good for small sized companies that don't have extremely complicated systems models. I could see it struggling to expand to complex systems due to the limitations in customization.

We use JAMA for requirements management. We required a database to manage the entire requirements lifecycle, from introduction to decommissioning. It is used mainly for security-related requirements. We have a dedicated team to work with the requirements and publish them using the Agile release management process.
  • Requirement management.
  • Cloud deployment.
  • Automated user provisioning.
  • Faster response time from support.
  • Integrations with Sharepoint.
JAMA is the solution for you whenever you would like to manage requirements.

We use Jama to manage our system architecture. This includes all levels of requirements and those trace down to our testing protocols. Jama helps document and track our versions and changes. It also is our main tool for documentation and execution of the V&V process. In the next two quarters, we are also aiming to integrate our FMEAs into Jama Connect as well.
  • Version control
  • Traceability
  • Managing test protocols
  • Test run execution
  • Redlining feature
  • Trace matrix generation
  • Managing versions of a project
Jama is well suited for managing and documenting requirements. The traceability feature to link items to one another upstream and downstream is helpful in seeing how everything fits together. Being able to write test cases and link those to the requirements is helpful as well. It seems to be trickier to produce a neat and easily understandable trace matrix from the links. Redlining and showing different versions to reviewers could also be improved.

Our company uses Jama Connect to manage our risk and requirement deliverables, as well as, other deliverables within our design control process. This product helps us visualize and maintain (within a live database) our coverage of traces from user and customer needs to our design outputs for a project. It also promotes collaboration within our cross-functional teams for instantaneous feedback.
  • Live traceability
  • Cross-functional collaboration and review
  • Custom reports
  • Obtaining information in a live view from multiple levels upstream or downstream
  • Item-type subscription services and alerts on changes
Jama Connect provides great coverage views on tracing between multiple levels. Having custom reports and working with their engineers helps create templates that suit our document control system needs. We are still investigating implementing medical device verification and validation testing with their test management suite.

  • Export to Word needs extensive formatting. I hope Jama provide better export functionality
  • Jama cloud has some security issues. We decided stay on-premises
  • Jama cloud does not have a capability to stay on a particular release, and have a frequent releases within a year.
  • It would be nice if floating creator license users can select to access as read only or read/write at login time.

We are doing the parent requirement cascade and traceability. Moreover, we are working on defining the means of compliance for safety-related requirements.
  • Tagging usernames using @
  • Icons are easy to understand
  • Requirements are easy to transform between text and requirement
  • Easy to navigate amoung different baselines and projects
  • In my experience, login takes longer, even when you are logged in it never saves - every time have to login again
  • Not intuitive to undo updates - wrongly update wording of a requirement for example
  • Not intuitive to recall the history of a specific requirement, all logins that updated and what this specific login has done
It is well suited for startups, and companies doing for the first time a requirements management task.

Requirements management both at SW and system level. At software level: support the automation process for code auto generation, software test procedures auto generation and Interface Control Documents management. Management of test activities through customised items (as explained in GitHub - jamasoftware-ps/Automated-Testing: Sample code illustrating possible approaches to importing automated test results). At system level: management of Assembly Integration and Verification test activities through test run items.
  • Traceability
  • Reporting
  • Requirements import/export
  • User friendly API
  • More flexibility in creating customised item types (for example: add possibility to use "step"-like tables in a custom way)
  • Even if API is found to be user friendly, testing automation process is not. For example, lack of SW test items that can be automated
Jama Connect is well suited for the management of the system requirements and related verification activities. For management of SW requirements, where automation would be desirable, Jama Connect might be more customizable.

Product management (marketing) produces a new product proposal in Word doc. We take the document and pull hard requirements out to create an engineering requirements document, adding any missing requirements from the marketing document. Periodically, we export the Jama Connect requirements back to a word document for project management and engineering to work to. Eventually, requirements are exported as excel so the test team can import them into their test case database.
  • Easy to use and configure
  • Super tech support
  • Exporting is done well (templates)
  • Supports complete product (me, hw, fw, sw, etc.). Not just an agile sw tool
  • Upgrading and managing server has been problematic.
  • Sharing requirements (or inheriting) is overly complicated for our use.
Jama Connect is great for a project containing a broad spectrum of disciplines (mechanical, electrical, firmware, software) that needs formal requirements documentation. It is very instrumental in the development of test plans even though we don't do our plans in Jama Connect. It is easy to come up to speed on and simple to work with. Obviously, this is not well suited for a software team wanting to do agile development.

Jama Connect is used across the whole organization for the purposes of requirements management and traceability. Different parts of the organization utilize Jama Connect more heavily or less heavily based on their individual needs. There is also some verification and validation testing that is managed and tracked through the Jama Connect software, but this is much more limited.
  • Collaboration on requirement development.
  • Establishing traceability between elements.
  • Review and approval functions of individual elements.
  • The user interface can be cumbersome and difficult to perform certain tasks efficiently. In particular, mass editing of items is not easy to do--items generally need to be handled on an individual basis.
  • Although individual needs can vary widely, some basic expected functionality is hidden or altogether unavailable.
  • Large projects become very difficult to manage.
Jama Connect is a solid framework for systems engineering that can integrate many design processes into a single tool. At a fundamental level, it is a great tool for handling requirements management and traceability but offers a variety of other features such as risk management and verification and validation. For someone who works in the medical device industry, the tool also complies with CFR requirements for electronic approvals and can be validated for such use.

It is being used in our design department for collaboration so items can be reviewed and verified in a single area in lieu of having to use a multitude of software. We are saving a ton of time on our projects and our ROI is going to be excellent.
  • Collaboration.
  • Review process.
  • Records system.
  • The learning curve is steeper than we would have liked.
  • Cumbersome at times.
  • We have had issues with sharing information.
Jama [Connect] seems like it would be a better product to use in a larger business setting where there are multiple offices or even multiple locations. We have a single location and we don't feel like it's the best for what we need to use for project collaboration. It seems too "large scale".

Jama Connect is the source of truth for requirements within the SKA Organisation (SKAO). We have used internally within SKAO to communicate between Engineering, Operations, and Scientists, but also to do requirement reviews with external consortia, to get their input. We are also using it for requirement flow-down and traceability, and using several report tools. With the SKAO being a non-profit organization, the main goal is delivering maximum value for the system being designed and later implemented, and having an agile way of dealing with requirements helps us.
  • Having access to requirements from everywhere in the world.
  • Requirement reports for document-centric parts of the development.
  • Support for online reviews and discussions.
  • Cloud-based installations don't have full access to all reporting tools.
  • Online reporting templates are not too customizable.
  • Glossaries are not first-class citizens in Jama; it should be possible to link to glossary entries directly from requirements, and vice-versa.
It is a good way of providing a full framework for requirements management which is customizable; however, interoperability functions are not its forte. Support for ReqIF or other formats is not provided out-of-the-box, and would be very welcome. Also, integration with Jira requires a third-party product, but it is an integration that might be worth keeping in-house.

Purely for design control development of medical devices. Requirements management, safety risk management, traceability, architecture definition, and verification.
  • traceability
  • requirements management
  • customization of projects
  • safety risk management -> make it more automated in terms of filling of metrics.
  • More integrations to agile tools beyond JIRA.
Design control development of medical devices, especially for startup companies that can't invest the time and resources to make a fully custom solution. Jama works well "out of the box".

JAMA Connect is used by our Medicaid Pharmacy Solutions Business Analysis Team for managing requirements for our clients. JAMA Connect provides the solution for housing our requirements in a repository to meet the needs of our customers. Cloud hosting ensures the latest releases are applied in a timely manner. The features we use most often are import data, export data, and filters.
  • To create, modify and remove customized templates using MS Office.
  • Customization of item types and item fields.
  • Add more advance formatting options.
  • Fix issue with date import. JAMA Connect changes the date to be one day ahead.
Jama Connect is well suited as an internal product management tool. The review center is great to review requirements electronically instead of sitting in a meeting to review them. Version control creates a great audit trail. The data exports to MS Office products have format issues. Time is wasted on document format revisions to send over to customers.

Jama Connect is being used by our organization for product development. It addresses requirements management and traceability. We are working on implementing test management and defect tracking within JAMA. My company is very unique in the fact that the product we produce is regulated under a pharmaceutical NDA and is required to be designed according to FDA design controls 21 CFR part 820.30. And while it is similar to what most would think of as a medical device, it is not actually classified as a medical device, so the entirety of 21 CFR part 820 does not apply. JAMA currently only helps us solve the design inputs problem and a portion of the design verification problem for meeting 21 CFR 820.30.
  • Jama organizes requirements extremely well into logical hierarchies.
  • Jama uses a general requirements structure that is highly customizable.
  • Jama's test management is weak for allowing medical device companies to manage verification efforts to meet the FDA's 21 CFR 820.30 design controls.
  • Jama still doesn't understand and give enough tools to integrate part 11 compliance.
For requirements management, JAMA is very effective. They've nailed that. Once you start moving into other areas, it starts dropping off in functionality. JAMA seems to have taken a more rigid approach to these other areas (test management, design reviews, traceability, risk management). If only they could design these other areas to be as wonderfully flexible as the core requirements management functionality.

We use it as our primary requirements management tool for storing any work products related to requirements development. It is used across several departments here. We use it to characterize our requirements deck including rationale documentation and traceability.
  • Traceability
  • Documentation
  • Dependencies
  • System of Record
  • Decision-Making
  • Review Center
  • General UX
  • Report Configuration
  • Feature Request turnaround
  • Jama Documentation
Jama is good for most applications. It is highly configurable which allows for a lot of freedom but relies on the organization to outline their desired process and definition of completion. As a power user, Jama has much of the functionality that we need but is missing a lot of the UX elements that encourage users, particularly new users or users who do not use Jama often, to engage with the tool. Its existing integration platforms are also subpar. Generally speaking, I would encourage other orgs to use Jama but would give them some details as to what challenges or limitations to expect.

We are using Jama Connect for collecting/gathering different types of requirements (i.e. business requirements, functional requirements, and non-functional requirements). We also used to get approval for those requirements to start working on it. Also, we use this as the golden source for all types of work to then track in JIRA.
  • Jama provides flexibility to add customized types of items, e.g. functional requirements, components or projects. Jama is useful for adding any specific attribute in any type of item.
  • Jama is useful to track approvals or get approvals for any specific requirement and proceed with it.
  • Jama provides a complete history of activities related to any item.
  • Jama doesn't provide any functionality or features to add any item type that has user validation in place. i.e. we added Jama_Authors item type and then used the same to create an attribute for the story. That attribute can't have the user validation, or we can not add it in Jama.
  • ALM protocol doesn't support URL type attributes in Jama 8. That must be fixed.
  • Jama doesn't provide an audit history of administrators on the UI to track the administrative activities.
  • Jama says 25,000 active items per project is good to get better performance, but it is less.
In the case of Requirement Management and Test Plans, Jama Connect is well suited. But in the case of tracking the progress of each requirement, task, or defect, JIRA is better than Jama. Workflows and other features of JIRA are better when compared to Jama. Also, Jama's backup strategy and support are not that as good as JIRA's. That's why I would not recommend Jama if you want more from the application.

Jama Connect helps our organization gather and organize internal and external requirements for our products and services. We use Jama across all of our teams to reference our ever-changing documentation and requirements. Jama helps provide quality version control and organization.
  • Jama provides each member of our team with organized and detailed documentation. We can add all of the information we need in a very structured way that is user-friendly.
  • Jama helps our teams know we are looking at the latest and greatest requirements. It is easy to know which document is the latest and easy to see what changes were made to each version.
  • Jama allows us to store a mass of information. Previously our teams relied on excel documents to store our requirements. This was very limiting to what we could do and how much data we could store. Jama has helped us upload many detailed requirement documents without lagging.
  • Jama could make it easier to toggle between different projects or search between multiple projects.
Jama is well suited for capturing requirements across the board for internal and external review. It is great for projects with multiple teams working together and going back and forth with clients for reviews. Easy to toggle between internal and external notes.

Jama Connect is used as a core base for requirement gathering of all clients in our Organization. All departments in our whole organization are dependent on Jama Connect when it comes to requirement gatherings of projects from clients as well as vendors. This is an effective portal for any organization that provides multiple services.
  • One can access all its client projects with a single set of credentials.
  • Advance search option is also available apart from regular search in a project which makes an easy job to filter for items.
  • Compare option is available for the versions to compare the updates made on previous requirements.
  • Recent activities and chats of other colleagues working on the same project can be seen.
  • Most important is the HELP icon that enables you to understand the workflow in Jama Connect.
  • Some additional tutorials can be added in the HELP icon that could make the user familiar with all of the functionality of Jama Connect.
  • Many icons are too small to find in the first place. Need a visual tutorial to know about their functionality in detail.
Jama Connect makes ones work too easy if one can get handy with it. There are so many features to explore in it.

Just one thing is that a new user will need to explore Jama Connect very deeply by oneself as there are no tutorials for all of the icons present in Jama to explain their functionality.

It is currently used across the organization. It helps capture and house all of the updates to a given requirement. Comes in handy when building out test case/plans
  • Easy to track change.
  • Great way to obtain and store the client's digital approval.
  • Great with version control.
  • Table Properties: some we need to adjust the border or lines as that of Excel, I haven't located this feature.
  • Spell Check: adding a feature next to the bold and italics buttons.
A great tool for change control & change management. It's Cloud-based making it readily accessible by all. Great tool for team collaboration, report generation and progress tracking across the board. One can determine if a reviewer/approval has accessed and began a review. Provides a great progress report and due date reminder tracking.
